The Showcase has now taken place. You can read our report in the review of the PIPAC Showcase and Clinical Exchange 2026.
On 30 October 2026, the German PIPAC Center at the Evangelisches Krankenhaus (EvK) Herne, together with REGER Medizintechnik, is hosting the PIPAC Showcase. Unlike the international workshop in March, the focus this time is not on training with a simulator and a certification exam, but on everyday practice in the operating theatre. Several live PIPAC procedures are planned on a single day.
What the Showcase is about
Participants observe Pressurized Intraperitoneal Aerosol Chemotherapy (PIPAC) as it actually takes place at a high-volume centre: procedure by procedure, spread over the whole day, in three blocks. A number of operations are planned; the exact number depends on the day's operating schedule and therefore cannot be guaranteed.
The operations will be performed by Prof. Dr. med. Jürgen Zieren, co-developer of the PIPAC procedure, who has performed more than 2,500 procedures himself. Alongside the transmission from the operating theatre, Prof. Dr. Urs Pabst-Giger will comment on what is happening and put the individual steps into context. Between the transmissions, participants can try out REGER technology (injector nozzles and injectors) themselves.
For context: PIPAC is a minimally invasive procedure for the treatment of peritoneal cancer (peritoneal carcinomatosis). Chemotherapy is sprayed under pressure as an aerosol directly into the abdominal cavity through a nozzle. The therapy is generally well tolerated and can be given alongside systemic chemotherapy. Its effects on quality of life and survival are being studied. Find out more on our Science & Research page.
Host and venue
The host is Prof. Dr. med. Chris Braumann, Director of the Department of General, Visceral and Tumour Surgery at the Evangelische Krankenhäuser Herne and Gelsenkirchen. EvK Herne belongs to the Evangelischer Verbund Augusta Ruhr (EVA Ruhr), one of the largest Protestant networks for health and social services in Germany, and has been a specialised centre for surgical cancer treatment for many years.
The German PIPAC Center was founded in 2025 and certifies hospitals that offer PIPAC therapy according to uniform quality standards. At its main site in Herne, the procedure has been further developed into PIPAC 2.0 high-dose/high-pressure therapy. We have summarised how the first year went in the article One year of the German PIPAC Center.
The event partner is REGER Medizintechnik, the original developer of PIPAC technology, with more than 20,000 clinical applications worldwide.
The programme
The event begins on the evening before and continues the following day throughout the entire operating day. This is a provisional schedule; minor changes to timings are possible.
Thursday, 29 October 2026
From 6:00 pm: opening with a short overview of PIPAC treatment and the REGER Complete Service Package, followed by dinner together.
Friday, 30 October 2026
From 7:30 am to 3:00 pm: three Showcase blocks with live PIPAC procedures by Prof. Zieren, transmission from the operating theatre with commentary by Prof. Pabst-Giger, and hands-on sessions with REGER technology. In between: group photo, snacks and lunch together.
You will find the full schedule with all timings in the programme PDF.
Who the event is for
The Showcase is aimed at surgeons and at hospitals that want to introduce PIPAC therapy or expand their existing programme. It suits you if you want to see the procedure in everyday practice before starting practical training. In-depth training with simulator sessions and a user certificate will continue to take place as part of the REGER PIPAC Workshop; the next edition is planned for March 2027.
After the workshop in March 2026, the first PIPAC in Turkey and the first PIPAC in Romania, among others, were performed by teams that had previously been trained in Herne.
A few places are still available. If you are interested in taking part, please get in touch via our contact form or by email at info@deutsches-pipac-zentrum.de. We will then send you further details on the schedule and registration.
